The Framingham Public Library Foundation’s latest fund raising effort is to transform the main library children’s craft room into a full-equipped makerspace. A makerspace is a collaborative work space for making, learning, exploring and sharing using a variety of tools and materials. These spaces help to prepare those who need critical 21st century skills in the fields of science, technology, engineering and math (STEM). They provide hands-on learning, help with critical thinking skills, and even boost self-confidence.

The foundation’s fund raising goal of $27,000 will help create an interactive and flexible space and stock it with technology, tools, materials and other resources that will stimulate innovative crafting and learning experiences. In the library’s makerspace, the community will be able to explore the limits of creativity and curiosity, in everything from crafting to coding, 3D printing, robotics, design, photography, and more.
