Literacy Unlimited is a vibrant, active community of volunteers who work with adult ESOL students at the main library to improve their English proficiency through conversation classes, one-to-one tutoring, and citizenship classes. Students speak at least 24 languages and come from over 100 countries. There are nearly 150 active students with an additional 200 students waiting for services.

What your help will do

The current space is too small for the number of students and tutors served. In-demand Conversation Classes, the first stop for so many new immigrants, have grown beyond the capacity of the small classroom and are now overflowing into the library.

Your donation to the Framingham Public Library Foundation will create a space intentionally designed for life-changing learning AND provides adequate and efficient space for staff.

We will create a more welcoming experience for our Literacy Unlimited students and tutors by relocating the program from its current location off the beaten path to a new space near:

  • English Language Learning collections
  • The Citizenship Corner and its civics and naturalization resources
  • Expert Reference and Research staff
